E-vignette Slovakia

Slovak motorway tolls use the Eznamka digital vignette linked to your registration number. Payment methods typically include cards and bank redirects; confirmation goes to e-mail with optional SMS.

Toll roads

Except for listed exemptions, all motorways (diaľnica, “D”) and expressways (rýchlostná cesta, “R”) require a vignette. About 435 km of motorways were tolled in the source snapshot, of ~700 km planned (with ~200 km under construction/planning).

Expressway signage changed in 2009: red signs with white “R” numbers. Planned expressway network scope ~1,200 km; R2/R3/R4 share some sections. About 314 km operational (excluding shared parts) and 18 km under construction in the source snapshot.

Exemptions

Since 1 August 2024, motorway bypasses around Bratislava, Nitra, Košice, Prešov, Poprad, and Žilina are exempt from the vignette requirement to reduce city-centre traffic and pollution.

Motorcycles are generally not subject to Slovak motorway vignette tolls.

Vignette regulations under 3.5 t

Cars, camper vans, and vans up to 3.5 t need a vignette. Trailers need their own product only when the combination exceeds 3.5 t; validity periods may differ between towing vehicle and trailer.

Prices and validity periods (summary)

Typical products: 1 day, 10 days, 30 days, 365 days. Valid through 23:59 on the last day. Annual 2026 products cannot be registered retroactively; 365-day tickets run exactly 365 days from your chosen start. You cannot stack overlapping vignettes for the same plate.

Marketing copy showed GBP/EUR parity line 1.00 £ = 1.15 € (14/05/2026). Online resellers may add VAT-inclusive service fees at checkout.

Toll regulations for lorries

Above 3.5 t without trailer (except camper rules), distance toll applies with an OBU on motorways, expressways, and certain sectionsregister via emyto.sk.

Fines and enforcement

Eznamka compliance is checked electronically with video surveillance. Reference copy cited about £130 standard fine with one month to pay; buying a monthly vignette within 15 days could reduce the case to about £85 plus the vignette (see table below).

Can I transfer my vignette?

Generally not to another vehicle, but if you buy a new car and keep the same registration number, the vignette may remain valid. If both vehicle and plate change, buy a new product. Typos may be correctablesee Eznamka rectification rules.

Can I change my number plate at a later date?

Written correction requests can be filed with Eznamka until the end of validity, with registration certificate, payment proof, and official evidence that the wrong plate never existed. Duplicate purchases for the same period may be refunded per policy. One-day vignettes: changes only while not yet valid, or within 15 minutes at staffed POS.

Can I postpone the start of validity after purchase?

Flex-style retailer add-ons may allow postponement; otherwise dates are fixed at purchase.

Who is exempt from a vignette?

• Interior Ministry and designated Police organisations.
• Defence Ministry and subordinate bodies, Armed Forces and NATO.
• Foreign military or civil units on official duties.
• Integrated rescue system base units, municipal fire brigades, municipal police, Slovak Red Cross.
• State motorway administrators (except concessionaires).
• Prison and Court Guard, historic vehicles under special rules, financial administration where applicable, National Security Authority, Slovak Information Service.
